L’histoire behind the graphic
New York, July 13, 1977. A historic blackout plunged the city into darkness. In the Bronx, this night of chaos also made history in hip-hop: DJ equipment, previously inaccessible to many young artists, was salvaged during the looting. Grandmaster Caz, a pioneering figure in the movement, later said he had taken advantage of that night.
The BLACKOUT graphic pays tribute to this defining moment in New York hip-hop culture.
